A chain of large eyelets along the spine of this shawl both shapes it and creates a spectacular detail on the smooth stockinette ground. The shawl is trimmed with a band of wave stitch that softens the bold design.

Yarn Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend (70% merino extrafine wool, 30% silk; 150 yd [137 m]/1¾ oz [50 g]): #3064 pewter, 4 skeins. Yarn distributed by Fairmount Fibers. Substitute with approximately 540 m / 590 yds of DK weight yarn that knits to the specified tension.
Needles Sizes 7 (4.5 mm) and 8 (5 mm): 40" circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle.
Gauge 17 sts and 28 rows = 4" in St st on smaller needle after blocking.
