I have used We are Knitters "The Petite Wool", which is classified as ‘bulky/chunky’ yarn of similar thickness – yarnsub is a great site which will help you find some compatible yarn depending on your location and how tight you knit. This pattern is written based on using a “Bulky” yarn and can easily be substituted for say Malabrigo Rios and use 2 strands at once, with the same cast on and pattern provided here.
