Over my years of crocheting, I have found that there seems to be plenty of choice of beautiful scarf patterns which are written with women in mind, but not as many patterns which are aimed at men.
The Rugged Ridge Scarf pattern was born when I was required to create a scarf as a gift for a man but couldn’t quite find a pattern which seemed ‘masculine enough’ for the recipient.
This pattern is suited to advanced beginners, it uses half double crochet stitches which are placed in the back loops and 3rd loops of the stitches, to create a lovely ribbed texture on one side of the scarf.
A 6mm hook is recommended for this project.
The Rugged Ridge Scarf works up beautifully in Patons Wool Blend Aran. This yarn seemed perfect for this design as it is a wool and acrylic blend and gave off the ‘rugged’ vibe I was aiming for. Should you wish to substitute, any Aran weight yarn will do.
