While this hat is listed as a size large, there are notes for how to change the size of the pattern.
Skills needed to knit this hat are: Working in the round, knitting, purling, decreasing, and intarsia (which is explained with pictures) or duplicate stitch. Yarn notes: For this hat I used Berroco’s Tuscan Tweed yarn, but any red, white, and blue worsted yarn should work. You can use any of the 3 colors for your main color, or a different background color that will need to be carried through the intarsia portion.
If you are knitting with the Jamieson's Shetland Heather Suggested, you will need 2 balls of yarn for the main color, and one each of the other two.
