The winged (or feathered) serpent occurs in the mythology of many different civilisations going back thousands of years. This one is not based on any particular serpent.
When you look straight at illusion knitting you only see narrow stripes. The dragon appears as you move around.
The illusion will work in any thickness of yarn but changing the thickness will probably change the overall size. I used about 750 metres (825 yards) in each of two colours.
The pattern contains several versions of the chart including one specially for using on mobile devices.
